MCPASD Artificial Intelligence (AI) Resources Page

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) evolves and becomes more commonly used in academic settings, it is important for District staff and students to thoughtfully and carefully consider how and when it can be used. It is necessary to educate district students and staff on how to ethically, safely, and productively utilize this tool while valuing honesty, privacy, and confidentiality.

Overview:

As Artificial Intelligence (hereby listed as AI) evolves and becomes more commonly used in academic settings, it is important for District staff and students to thoughtfully and carefully consider how and when it can be used. It is necessary to educate district students and staff on how to ethically, safely, and productively utilize this tool while valuing honesty, privacy, and confidentiality.

What is AI?:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the theory and development of computer systems that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.

Generative AI vs. Efficiency AI = Generative AI creates text, images, or media. Efficiency AI processes data or creates efficiencies in workflows.

Goal:

The MCPASD is currently working to develop a plan for how the district interacts with AI. This includes guidelines for students, staff, and the community on appropriate usage, a professional development plan for the district, an approved tool for use in classrooms, and comprehensive policies around the usage of AI. More information can be found in the District Guidelines below. It is important to remember that AI is an ever-evolving technology requiring frequent changes to guidelines and policies. Any District Guidelines are subject to change.

AI Focus Team:

More information on how to join the District AI focus team will be available soon.

Professional Development:

A comprehensive plan for professional development will be created over the next year to address the needs of students and staff as related to AI.

District Guidelines:

The MCPASD encourages staff to explore and experiment with AI tools to enhance their teaching methods and engage students in new ways. The primary risk associated with using AI is the sharing of personally identifiable information, so please ensure all data used is anonymized and compliant with privacy policies. Staff and students are encouraged to  embrace innovation while maintaining our commitment to student privacy and safety. (OpenAI, 2024

Tools:

Various tools exist to interact with AI. These include Generative AI, such as ChatGPT/Google Gemini, or Efficiency AI, such as MagicSchoolAI. The district will be evaluating different options for adoption in the future.

For now, the District is asking for feedback on Brisk as a tool for AI teaching and learning. Feel free to download Brisk and check it out. The AI team will contact you for feedback on Brisk as the year progresses. Be sure to follow all District Guidelines for AI while using this tool.
