Peggy Marxen

Fall is a great time to curl up with a good book. Why not explore the works of our very own Alumni?

Former fourth-grade teacher Peggy Marxen published her memoir at the Wisconsin State Historical Society.

The book is titled The Farm on Badger Creek: Memories of a Midwest Girlhood. It recounts her experiences growing up in an isolated location but surrounded by a close-knit family on their rural Wisconsin farm. The book has a quaint and nostalgic theme as Marxen explains aspects of her childhood, including attending school in a one-room schoolhouse and living without electricity at an early age.

Marxen taught within the district for 33 years before retiring in 2002. She even taught at Northside Elementary the first year that it opened!

"I've always enjoyed Wisconsin history the teaching it in 4[h grade social studies. I consider it an honor to put my memories in a book published by the Wisconsin State Historical Society that will preserve my childhood memories of northern Wisconsin," she said.
