Director of Finance & Operations Erin Wheeler updated the Board of Education on the impact Governor Evers’s state budget will have on the district at its regular meeting on Monday, July 19, 2021.
This budget impacts MCPASD during our 2021-22 and 2022-23 school year.
Here are some of the changes.
1. No increase under revenue limits (RL) - $0 per pupil adjustment
In prior years, the state would give us additional monies for every student. During the 2020-21 school year, MCPASD saw an increase of $179 per pupil increase which gave us $1,326,032.
These next two school years, there will be no increase.
2. Increase to general state aid
Director Wheeler stated that this increase would not be providing additional revenue to the district. It just redistributes the two primary funding sources of our revenue limit: state and property tax.
“In the revenue calculation, it impacts the distribution, so it doesn’t mean you have additional money; it means you have additional state aid that can potentially offset the amount that your taxing,” said Assistant Superintendent Lori Ames.
The increase to the general state aid and the impact on MCPASD’s distribution will be known on October 15, 2021, for the 2021-22 school year budget.
3. Increase to special education aid
MCPASD is estimated to receive just over $300,000 for special education aid for the next three school years.
“This is a sum certain appropriation, which means it’s a set dollar amount,” said Director Wheeler. “If expenses from all the school districts exceed that amount, everybody gets a prorated share of that dollar amount.”
4.No increase to per-pupil categorical aid - Remains at $742/pupil
5.Eliminate Supplemental Aid - MCPASD decrease of approximately $20,000
